Director of Early Life Academy

Becky White

Becky is from Fortville, a small town in Indiana just outside of Indianapolis. Her family still lives in the area today. Becky moved to Florida in July 1989. Shortly after moving and visiting First United Methodist Church, Becky became a member in the fall of 1989.
Becky served for sixteen years as the church’s Superintendent of Sunday School. In this role Becky was responsible for tracking attendance records for all Sunday school classes, ordering class and lesson materials, and taking care of all things Sunday School. Whatever was needed, Becky found a way to get it. Becky led the church’s Vacation Bible School and several of the children’s Christmas programs during her tenure as Superintendent.
In July 2008, Becky was hired as our inaugural Director of the Early Life Academy, a new Daycare Ministry. Under Becky’s direction, the ELA became more than a traditional pre-school age program. Her goal was to help our children reach their highest individual potential in their early stages of life. Becky loves seeing our “Little Hearts” connecting to God’s world even in their beginning stages of learning.
According to Becky, “This by far has been the best job ever in my life – outside of being a Mom to my boys.”
Becky has two wonderful adult sons, Kristoffer and Andrew. And she is blessed with two beautiful granddaughters, Ava and Sawyer. And Becky cannot forget her wonderful husband, Travis, who puts up with her crazy self. You can typically find them both in the ELA on Sunday afternoons prepping for the new school week.
Becky attended Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. Her goal in life even then was to be a teacher. But as it does for many of us, life got in the way and that plan got sidetracked – at least for a while. Prior to her current role at the church, Becky held a number of jobs. Nanny, nursery attendant (FUMC Marion, KY), delivered the Tampa Tribune, an office manager, and a house cleaner.
Being the Director of the Early Life Academy is the greatest. Becky has the opportunity to be with children and her wonderful staff every day. Becky’s love for children, along with her natural talents allow for the opportunity to help her students (although she calls them her children) begin their educational process long before entering public schools. Plus, she loves being able to share with them the love and story of Jesus Christ.
The ELA children and their families are a wonderful blessing in her life. Becky knows that this statement sounds too good to be true, but it is. Becky knows we have the best families in Land O Lakes.
