Tonya is a Florida native who has lived all over the country. Tonya has a degree in Sociology/Psychology with an emphasis in Elementary Ed. She is certified in Christian Montessori Methodology and has written curriculum for the Mississippi Episcopal Conference and the Lutheran/Missouri Synod.
She has been a counselor and teacher in both church and secular settings. After several years as a High-Risk Counselor for juveniles and kids with disabilities Tonya felt called to use her gifts to help families and children in a different way.
Her vision was to help kids develop a true relationship with Jesus and a firm foundation that might help prevent them from ending up on the pathways she was seeing so often in behavioral/educational programs and court systems. Her goal was to do this with authenticity, recognizing the real struggles and pressures of our society.
She also feels strongly that families need support and tools, so they can travel the spiritual journey together, creating stronger family units, church families, and communities.
Today, Tonya has been in the Family/ Children/Youth Ministry arena for over 20 years. She is proud to be part of the team developing the FUMCLOL Family Ministry. Tonya loves her job and believes that we can all make a difference every day.
